Twitter lit up with reaction, including a “Grassley’s dead deer” parody account.
WHY DID YOU KILL ME

Grassley has in the past locked horns with animal rights groups.
Earlier this year, the Department of Agriculture encouraged its employees to participate in “Meatless Mondays.”
Grassley responded:
I will eat more meat on Monday to compensate for stupid USDA recommendation abt a meatless Monday

PETA then posted on its website that Grassley was “anxious to show his campaign contributors that he will fight to the death (literally, perhaps) over Americans’ right to be sick and fat,” and said it would take bets on “on how long it will take Sen. Grassley to succumb to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or some other meat-related disease.”
