US aid to Syria reaches $385 million

The latest assistance was announced at a meeting of the Syria Humanitarian Forum in Geneva, Switzerland. The new funding aims to “provide additional medical supplies and emergency medical care” to Syrians in need, according to the State Department, and “provide food vouchers for more than 50,000 additional Syrian refugees in Jordan.”

{mosads}The latest aid comes as President Obama is under growing pressure to arm the Syrian rebels who have been fighting Bashar Assad’s regime for the past 23 months. The crisis in Syria – and what to do about it – will be at the top of the agenda when Secretary of State John Kerry meets with his foreign minister counterparts in Rome next week.
