Will Smith among additions to Obama campaign bundlers

Several big-name fundraisers stepped forward late in President Obama’s reelection campaign, new campaign records show.

{mosads}The Obama-Biden campaign released an updated list of bundlers from the fourth quarter of the 2012 campaign on Saturday. Those bundlers – which the campaign refers to as voluntary fundraisers – are able to collect large sums from other donors.

Actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith landed on the list, having hosted a fundraiser at their Los Angeles home, in the $500,000-and-above category. Filmmaker Tyler Perry is also billed in the top category.

Federal laws capped personal contributions at $2,300 to individual candidates or committees during the 2012 election cycle, but bundling is a common practice to show loyalty to a candidate.

Vogue Magazine Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and Penny Pritzker, business owner and heiress to the Hyatt hotel fortune, are on the list and being considered for spots in the Obama administration.

It is rumored that the president is considering the British-born Wintour for an ambassadorship to either the United Kingdom or France while Pritzker may be a Department of Commerce secretary nominee.

If the list is printed from the Obama-Biden campaign website, it stretches across 26 pages, listing hundreds of names of people who raised anywhere from $50,000 to more than a half-million dollars to reelect the president.

Outside-the-Beltway politicians can also be found on the list, including Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D), Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) and Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker (D).

Democrat Jon Corzine, former senator and governor of New Jersey also graced the bundler list – though he has become known more recently as the ex-chief executive of currently bankrupt MF Global, a commodities brokerage firm that is under investigation after the disappearance more than $1 billion in customer funds.

The most recognizable names to the general public, however, come from Hollywood: Musician and fashion designer Gwen Stefani, Miramax Films co-founder Harvey Weinstein and actress Eva Longoria, for example, helped to boost the campaign’s bank account.
