Transportation sector loses 2,800 jobs in March
{mosads}The losses mark the fourth consecutive month of transportation job losses after a string of five months that saw increases in employment in the sector following the passage of a $105 billion surface transportation bill last summer.
The sector with the highest number of gains in transportation employment in March, according to BLS, was transit and ground transportation, which increased by 6,100 jobs. Transit companies had 470,300 jobs in March, compared to 464,200 in February.
The highest number of losses in transportation employment came in the trucking industry, which went from 1,380,000 jobs in February to 1,373,100 jobs in March.
The labor statistics bureau found the aviation industry lost 100 jobs, going from 445,600 in February to 445,500 last month. Rail employment was down by 700 jobs, with the industry containing 230,100 jobs in March compared to 230,800 in February.
