Appropriations chief: Pentagon should do more to stop China’s cyberattacks

Rogers raised the cyber issue with Hagel at a hearing that was
primarily intended to talk about the 2014 budget. He was one of several
appropriations lawmakers to talk about both China’s cyber attacks and the
dispute in the South China Sea.

{mosads}Hagel noted that cyber was one of the areas where the
Pentagon proposed beefing up its budgets in 2014. He called it “the greatest
threat to our security,” echoing recent statements from top intelligence
officials.

Hagel said that Dempsey would be talking directly to Chinese
leaders about the cyber issue when he travels there.

“When he is there in China, we’ll address this issue. It is
a serious issue and we are talking to the Chinese about it,” Hagel said.
