Foxx DOT vote scheduled for next week

{mosads}Lawmakers held a congenial hearing for Foxx in May, when he faced no tough questions and appeared to win support from even staunch conservatives like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tweeted a picture of his meeting with Foxx, providing another indication that the Charlotte mayor had good odds of being confirmed.

Obama nominated Foxx, who is black, last month after facing criticism from usual supporters about a lack of diversity in second-term Cabinet appointments. Backers of the pick have touted Foxx for his support for public transportation projects in Charlotte.

The issue of diversity among the Cabinet did not come up in Foxx’s question-and-answer session with lawmakers.

The would-be Transportation secretary has promised to work with lawmakers in both parties if he is confirmed to run the agency.

“There is no such thing as a Democratic or Republican road, bridge, port, air field or rail system,” Foxx said when he was introduced as Obama’s DOT choice in April.

“We must work together across party lines to enhance this nation’s infrastructure,” Foxx continued in his late April remarks.
