EMILY’s List launches nonprofit arm

{mosads}The group, American Women, was inspired by EMILY’s List’s 2012 successes in toppling Republican candidates seen as “anti-women,” president Stephanie Schriock said in a release, and will “amplify the voices of women” this cycle.

“In the 2012 election, women sent a message by rejecting politicians who supported anti-women policies that would have rolled back the clock on their rights,” Schriock said. “Now it’s time to amplify the voices of women across the nation and work to make sure women are heard in Washington and backed up with policies that make their lives just a little bit easier.”

It released data from a poll conducted among 1000 women nationwide who participated in the 2012 election that indicates 70 percent of respondents feel being paid less than men for the same work is a problem, and 51 percent believe it’s a major problem.

Data points like those will offer context to attacks by EMILY’s List this cycle, as the group again plans to target Republicans for their opposition to a number of female-friendly policies, like the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act.
