Rep. Moran’s new beard dubbed ‘Santa chic’ by staff

The 12-term congressman’s spokesman, Thomas Scanlon, tells ITK there’s a reason behind his boss’ lip and chin sweater, saying in an email, “Forged in the wilds of the Maine woods during August recess, Mr. Moran’s rugged look is, in part, preparation for the coming budget battle and debt ceiling showdown.”

Scanlon adds that Moran’s staff likes to refer to the beard as “Santa chic.”

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is also switching up her signature style with a new ‘do.

The Texas Democrat, known for her braided hair that’s usually fashioned in a bun atop her head, is now rocking a more natural, short cut.

Jackson Lee, 63, told a local TV station last year that she lost her hair during treatment for breast cancer. She said at the time that having a bald head actually felt freeing because, “There’s nothing to take care of.”

The congresswoman announced in August 2012 that she was cancer free.

Jackson Lee’s office didn’t return ITK’s request for comment on her hairstyle makeover.
