Creigh Deeds: Prayers, friendship important
Virginia state Sen. Creigh Deeds (D) has been released from the hospital and posted a message on Twitter to those praying for him.
t“I am alive so must live,” he wrote. “Some wounds won’t heal. Your prayers and your friendship are important to me.”
{mosads}The message comes days Deeds was stabbed repeatedly in the head and upper torso by his son, according to police. Gus Deeds, 24, then fatally shot himself.
The state senator was released from University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville Friday. The last update on his status, on Wednesday, put him in “good” condition.
An autopsy has confirmed that Gus Deeds died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound fired from a rifle, state police said.
The elder Deeds was the 2009 Democratic gubernatorial nominee, losing to Gov. Bob McDonnell (R). A range of officials expressed their prayers and support for Deeds when the news of the incident broke Tuesday.
