US-China competition fosters action on climate

National Geographic takes a look at the competitive relationship between the U.S. and China, as it aides movement on battling climate change.

Last year, China began to disclose information on air pollution levels from a new monitoring station.

The move, National Geographic says, came after some indirect prodding from the U.S.

And in the renewable energy realm, China aggressively invested in renewables amid last year’s dispute with the U.S. over solar energy tariffs.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy has acknowledged the competitive spirit between the two nations but says the U.S. is positioned to work with China in greater depth on climate change issues.
