Obama taps Ag official Vetter for trade job

President Obama tapped an Agriculture Department official on Tuesday to take over as a top trade negotiator. 

Obama nominated Darci Vetter on Tuesday to take over as the chief agriculture negotiator at the U.S. Trade Representative’s office. 

{mosads}Last week, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman announced that Islam Siddiqui would leave the post early next year after three years of service.

The United States is in negotiations with 11 other nations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership and simultaneously with the European Union on a trade deal that could create a $5 trillion trading zone. 

Since 2010, Vetter has been the deputy undersecretary in the Office of the Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services at Agriculture.  

Between 2007 and 2010 she was an international trade adviser with the Senate Finance Committee. 

Prior to working in the Senate, Vetter held numerous roles at USTR focusing on agriculture.
