Report: Rangel to run for reelection
Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) will announce his run for reelection this week, according to the New York Daily News.
“He’s decided,” a source told the paper. “He’s running.”
{mosads}Rangel’s future plans had been in question because he’s expected to face a difficult race. State Sen. Adriano Espaillat, who previously ran against the congressman for the Democratic nomination, is expected to again launch a challenge and stands poised to take advantage of the district’s sizeable Hispanic population.
And observers say Rangel will again have to contend with the spot on his record left by his censure by the House Ethics Committee in 2010, as well as the perception that the 83-year-old, 22-term lawmaker has been in Congress for too long.
But he’s been working to expand his base in the 13th District and won’t be easy to unseat, supporters say.
Rangel is expected to announce his decision on Thursday.
