Senate passes bill to pay for OPM audits

The Senate passed a bill Wednesday to expand funding for audits at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Earlier this month, the House voted 418-0 to pass the OPM IG Act, H.R. 2860. The Senate passed the bill through a unanimous consent agreement meaning the legislation now heads to President Obama’s desk for his signature before becoming law.

{mosads}The bill allows OPM’s Inspector General to use a portion of a revolving fund — which can be used to fund training and other programs — to pay for audits and other investigatory work at OPM.

The Senate also passed S. 1417, the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Reauthorization Act. The bill will head to the House for further action.

Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) introduced S. 1417, which amends the Public Health Service Act to extend a grant program for screening, counseling and other services related to heritable disorders.
