House, Senate postpone votes ahead of storm

The House and Senate have postponed votes scheduled for Monday because of an impending winter storm that could dump between 5 and 9 inches of snow on Washington.

{mosads}Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) announced Sunday that votes on noncontroversial bills scheduled for Monday would be pushed back by 24 hours. On Saturday, the Senate postponed a procedural vote on a judicial nomination until midday Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the capital from midnight until 6 p.m. on Monday.

The schedule change means the House will be session for less than 48 hours this week. Cantor said the House still plans to break for the week by 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) late Sunday announced federal offices in the Washington area will be closed on Monday due to the storm. Emergency and telework employees must follow agency policies, the OPM said.
