GOP senator: Americans don’t want a king

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said Wednesday that President Obama was ruling America as if he were a “king or House of Lords” by choosing who is “suffering” under ObamaCare.

Johnson has filed a lawsuit against the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for ruling that members of Congress are allowed to exempt some of their staff from having to participate in the ObamaCare health exchange.

{mosads}“This case is about far more than overturning the unfair special treatment for Congress,” Johnson said. “Americans do not wish to be ruled by a king or a House of Lords. We expect and deserve to be treated equally under the law. That is the primary principle this case is designed to affirm.”

Earlier this week, the OPM filed a motion to dismiss Johnson’s case.

“Millions of ordinary Americans are suffering under the full harsh realities of ObamaCare,” Johnson said. “Whether or not I have demonstrated sufficient harm to obtain standing before the court is a disputable question. What is beyond dispute is the significant damage that already has been done to real people as a direct result of ObamaCare.”

Johnson has argued that it is “special treatment” for Congress if not all staffers have to enter the exchange. He has said a solution to this problem is a full repeal of the “disastrous” law.

Democrats point out that the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, has helped people with preexisting conditions and those under age 26 who can stay on a parent’s healthcare and provided women free preventive care. They say Republicans want to end all of those benefits by repealing the law.
