Obama to mark Boston bombings anniversary

President Obama will observe the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings with a moment of silence at the White House on Tuesday afternoon.

He will hold the moment of silence with senior advisers in the Oval Office around 2:40 p.m.

{mosads}On April 15 last year, two bombs exploded at 2:49 p.m. near the finish line at the city’s annual marathon.

The bombing left three people dead and more than 260 people wounded.

Vice President Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, will mark the anniversary by attending a memorial service at Boston’s Hynes Convention Center on Tuesday.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the two brothers behind the bombings, faces the possibility of the death penalty. Attorney General Eric Holder directed prosecutors earlier this year to seek that sentence. Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty to 30 charges against him.
