Bush 43 mourns death of Miss Beazley

Former President George W. Bush paid respects to his dog Miss Beazley on Saturday, after his four-legged White House companion died at age nine.

The Scottish terrier “was put to rest after a battle with lymphoma,” Bush wrote on Facebook.

{mosads}“She was a source of joy during our time in Washington and in Dallas… She was a guardian to our cats, Bob and Bernadette, who — like [former first lady] Laura [Bush] and I — will miss her,” he added.

Along with the note, Bush posted a series of photos, including one of himself and Miss Beazley cuddling in the Oval Office.  

Barney, another Scottish terrier whom Bush described as Miss Beazley’s “blood relative,” was a constant companion through the later years of Bush’s presidency.

“And even though [Barney] received all the attention, Beazley never held a grudge against him,” he wrote.

Miss Beazley was a birthday gift from Bush to his wife, Laura, in late 2004. The two dogs were repeatedly featured in White House videos and cards, and for a while were the subject of their own website, Barney.gov.

Barney, who was four years older than Miss Beazley, passed away last year at the age of 12.

Both dogs continued to live with Bush after his presidency ended.
