New PAC spoof goes after ‘Veep’
A new (and fake) political action committee is coming out swinging with a pair of hard-hitting attack ads against a White House hopeful …”Veep’s” vice president, Selina Meyer.
The Citizens Against Selina Meyer Action Committee launched the ads this week, saying its campaign is “designed to bring attention to the perils of a possible Selina Meyer presidency.”
In the hit HBO political satire, the profanity-spewing VP, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is gearing up for primary season after announcing her White House bid.
In one of the PAC’s videos, titled “3 a.m.,” a narrator says, “It’s 3 a.m. and your kids are safe and asleep but there’s a phone in the White House and it’s ringing. There’s trouble happening somewhere in the world.”
The video then cuts to a clip of Meyer hurling an F-bomb someone’s way, saying, “You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about, f—g idiot.”
The nearly minute-long clip is similar to a real-life 2008 political ad (complete with the same title) that then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign ran.
The other ad declares Meyer “has no clue to fix an ailing economy,” as a clip of Meyer is shown with her proclaiming, “There isn’t an economic Santa Claus and don’t I wish that there were.” The PAC then says the “real Selina Meyer” is “an advocate for torture.”
Meyer is seen in the video saying, “Where I come from, we kill people for looking at us funny. We waterboard folks who haven’t even done anything.”
At press time, HBO confirmed it created the faux PAC.
