House members in Tues. primaries miss votes

Several House members in competitive primary elections, including in Georgia and Pennsylvania, missed votes on Tuesday. 

House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.), one of the key negotiators of the water resources conference report that passed the House early Tuesday afternoon, voted for his bill but did not attend the 6 p.m. votes. Shuster was expected to return to his district for the primary election results in the evening.

{mosads}Two of the Georgia Republicans vying for Senate, Reps. Jack Kingston and Phil Gingrey, both spoke on the House floor early in the afternoon in support of the water projects bill. Both voted in favor of the legislation, which would authorize funding to expand water infrastructure in Savannah, Ga. But neither attended votes in the evening on two bills to combat human trafficking.

Meanwhile, Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.), who is not expected to proceed to a runoff in the Georgia Senate GOP primary, did not vote at all on Tuesday.

Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.), who has missed more House votes this year than any other member seeking higher office, was also absent. Schwartz is running for Pennsylvania governor but is not expected to win the primary.

But Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), a close ally of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) who is facing an opponent backed by the Club for Growth, did not miss any votes on Tuesday.
