Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) officials are increasing train service to the city’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which is the world’s busiest airport, the Associated Press reports

MARTA officials said they were adding six new train cars to the systems Red and Gold rail lines, which both culminate at the Atlanta airport, according to the report.

Hartsfield-Jackson is the world’s busiest airport with approximately 95 million passengers per year passing through its gates and terminals.

{mosads}MARTA is the eight-busiest public transportation system in the United States. The system carries approximately 451,000 passengers on an average weekday.

By contrast, Washington, D.C.’s Metrorail subway system, which is the second busiest U.S. transit network, carries approximately 750,000 passengers per day.

Public transportation advocates have praised cities like Atlanta for providing a direct rail link to visitors to their airports. Transit supporters argue that having direct rail service between airports and downtown hotels boosts the convention business of cities throughout the U.S.
