Green group launches $175K ad campaign backing climate rule

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is launching a $175,000 ad campaign backing the administration’s new proposal to limit carbon pollution from the nation’s existing power plants.

The ads, which will start running on Facebook, Google and Change.org this week, encourage the public to submit a comment in support of the new rules.

{mosads}The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set a 120-day comment period for the regulations, which seek to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants 30 percent by 2030. Typically the public is given 60 days to comment.

“We want to show the EPA that Americans overwhelmingly support these commonsense safeguards. The public isn’t falling for corporate polluters’ failed playbook that puts protecting their profits ahead of protecting public health,” LCV spokesman Jeff Gohringer said in a statement.

One ad urges the public to take advantage of what they are calling a “historic opportunity to combat climate change.”

Another ad slams conservative billionaire donors Charles and David Koch for their ties to fossil fuels.

“The Koch brothers, coal industry and climate change deniers are all fighting to stop the EPA from reducing the dangerous carbon pollution driving climate change,” the Facebook ad states.

The administration is scheduled to finalize the new carbon emissions rules by mid-2015.
