Another airline facing trouble for World Cup tweet

A second major airline is facing criticism for a tweet related to the World Cup soccer tournament that has been deemed racially insensitive by critics. 

Amstelveen, Netherlands-based KLM Airlines tweeted a picture of a departure sign with text that read “adios amigos” after the Dutch team defeated Mexico in a World Cup game over the weekend, The Associated Press is reporting. 

The tweet including a picture that contained a caricature of a Mexican man with a large mustache and a sombrero.

{mosads}The incident follows a similar dust-up over a Delta Airlines tweet when the U.S. soccer team defeated Ghana that included a picture of a giraffe to represent the African nation. 

Both Delta and KLM deleted their initial tweets and issued apologies for offending any of their Twitter followers. 

“It was meant to be a joke,” KLM spokeswoman Lisette Ebeling Koning told the AP. “But there was too much negative reaction.”
