GOP poll: Republican leads Georgia Senate race

Businessman David Perdue (R) has a comfortable lead over former charity executive Michelle Nunn (D), according to a new Republican poll.

{mosads}Perdue leads Nunn 49 percent to 40 percent in the automated poll, conducted by the new firm Vox Populi.

The poll is one of the first since Perdue won his primary election last Tuesday. Another Republican poll found him with a smaller lead, while a nonpartisan automated poll found Nunn in the lead.

Partisan polls should always be taken with a grain of salt, and this poll’s methodology raises a few questions. It was conducted over two days, not three like pollsters say is ideal, and one of those days was a Sunday, a hard day to accurately poll, especially in the South where church attendance is high.

The poll was conducted as news broke of an embarrassing leak of a Nunn campaign memo detailing her strategy and weaknesses.

The poll of 624 active voters including 497 automated telephone calls and 127 reached by “mobile based survey technology” was conducted from July 27–28 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
