Willie Nelson, Neil Young to help raise money for anti-Keystone fight

Musicians Neil Young and Willie Nelson are performing in a benefit concert to help raise money for groups fighting the Keystone XL pipeline.

The concert, which will be on Sept. 27, will be held at a farm near Neligh, Neb., near the proposed route of the oil sands pipeline.

{mosads}Proceeds from the concert will go to Bold Nebraska, the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Cowboy and Indian Alliance to help campaign against Keystone, and a number of small clean energy projects.

“Farmers, ranchers and tribes that have been standing up to TransCanada are rock stars in my eyes,” said Jane Kleeb, director of Bold Nebraska.

“Now we will have the honor to have music legends Neil Young and Willie Nelson stand with us against this risky pipeline that threatens our water and our livelihoods. It is our hope that President Obama in the end stands with us over big oil,” Kleeb said.

Nebraska’s Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case over Keystone XL’s route in early September, pushing any decision on the pipeline until well after the midterm elections.

The State Department froze its national interest review of the pipeline over the legal holdup in Nebraska, and to allow its agencies more time to gather information.
