Reid blasts GOP for listening to Cheney on Iraq
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) chided Republicans for meeting with former Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday, saying his advice on Iraq is useless.
{mosads}“Please, taking advise from Dick Cheney? That’s a terrifying prospect,” Reid said on the Senate floor Wednesday. “Dick Chaney is more responsible than anyone else for the worst foreign policy decision in history of the country — the invasion of Iraq.”
Reid said the War in Iraq contributed to instability in the region and the uprising of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a terrorist group that has taken swaths of land in the region and killed two American journalists.
“I am amazed — amazed — that some members of Congress want to rush to war,” Reid said. “How did that work out for us last time — not so well. … The Bush-Cheney strategy of rushing into conflict doesn’t work.”
Reid urged lawmakers to wait until after President Obama’s speech to the nation at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and a lawmaker briefing on Thursday before rushing to judgment.
