Gas pipeline accident kills worker

An accident with a natural gas pipeline killed one Chevron Corp. contractor and injured two in the Gulf of Mexico off Louisiana’s shore.

Chevron declined to identify the workers on the drilling rig or give details about the Saturday incident, Reuters reported. The non-fatal injuries were described as minor.

{mosads}The pipeline is part of the Henry Hub distribution system, a major hub owned by Chevron that serves as a benchmark for pricing purposes.

Chevron depressurized the pipeline and shut it down shortly after the incident, saying it “is continuing to depressurize the natural gas gathering line offshore Louisiana. This is to allow the safe repair of the site,” according to Reuters.

It did not say how long the line would be shut.

The company said it “regrets this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the contractor’s family and friends.”
