NRA endorses Georgia House Dem

The National Rifle Association is backing Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.), giving the Deep South’s last white House Democrat a potentially big boost in his reelection push.

{mosads}”John Barrow has been a leader on Second Amendment issues in Congress,” NRA Political Victory Fund Chairman Chris W. Cox said in a statement. “He has consistently opposed all attempts to ban lawfully owned firearms and magazines, and has stood strong against the Obama-Bloomberg gun control agenda.”

Barrow has long touted his opposition to gun control, and this isn’t the first time he’s won the NRA’s endorsement. In a memorable 2012 ad, he showcased his guns while touting the NRA’s backing, saying his grandfather had used one to stop a lynching before he was born and concluding, “These are my guns now, and ain’t nobody gonna take ’em away.”

The congressman has been able to defeat a slew of Republican challengers over the years because of his cultural conservatism. The National Republican Congressional Committee is targeting him for defeat once again this fall in his heavily conservative district, but most believe he has the edge against businessman Rick Allen (R).
