Polls: Republican leads top House target in Virginia
Republicans hold the upper hand in a top-targeted open House seat in Northern Virginia, according to a pair of new polls.
{mosads}Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock (R) leads Fairfax County Commissioner John Foust (D) in two competing surveys from outside groups involved in the race, though they reported notably different results.
A poll released Wednesday by the Republican-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund shows Comstock leading Foust 46 percent to 34 percent, while one out Tuesday night from the Democratic House Majority PAC found Comstock leading with a much narrower 41 percent to 39 percent margin.
Both candidates and their allies have been on the air with ads recently in the expensive Washington, D.C., media market, but both polls indicate there are plenty of undecided voters left heading into the campaign’s final weeks.
Outside groups are spending more on airtime targeting this district than anywhere else over the next month.
The live-caller HMP poll of 400 likely voters was conducted by Democratic firm Victoria Research from Sept. 24–28 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points. The live-caller CLF poll of 403 likely voters was conducted by GOP firm the Tarrance Group Sept. 23–25 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 points.
