Landrieu rates Obama a 7 out of 10

Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) gave President Obama a passing grade during Tuesday night’s debate when asked to rate him on a scale of one to 10.

“I would give President Obama a six to seven,” said the vulnerable incumbent. “I think he’s had some really tough issues to deal with.”

That rating didn’t jibe with her opponents, Republicans Rep. Bill Cassidy and Rob Maness, who both failed to even put the president on the board. “Obama’s a zero,” Cassidy said. “Obama’s going to go down as one of the worst presidents.”

Obama has taken his lumps in the state; his approval rate has never risen above 42 percent. According to the Huffington Post’s poll tracker, the most recent polling has Obama at 39 percent favorable and 57 percent unfavorable.

Landrieu has tried to balance her support for the president and his agenda with his unpopularity at home. During the debate, she made a point to disagree with the president on his energy plan, but willingly embrace some of his ideas.

She currently leads the polls for Election Day, but so far isn’t polling above 50 percent, the threshold to avoid a runoff election in December. If the race does go to a runoff between the top two candidates, which most likely will be Landrieu and Cassidy, the Republican lawmaker leading the polls. 

The three candidates were also asked to rate Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. Landrieu said she’d give him “barely a three,” while Maness rated him a five, and Cassidy a seven.
