Pentagon weighs new construction standards for military hospitals

Military hospitals could be facing new construction standards.

The Pentagon is reviewing construction standards in an effort to build “world class” military medical centers like Walter Reed, it announced in the Federal Register.

{mosads}An independent review panel from the Department of Defense will meet with healthcare leaders on Nov. 12 to consider whether the military’s construction standards for medical centers should be strengthened to align with industry best practices.

The review panel is responsible for making sure these construction standards are applied consistently to all military medical centers.

This group could then recommend new construction standards for military hospitals to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.
