Boehner dings Obama in holiday poem

“The gridlock in the Senate may finally be ending,” Speaker John Boehner declares in a new holiday rhyme that contains a dig at President Obama.

The Ohio Republican released his end-of-the-year poetic take on “A Visit from St. Nicholas” Thursday on YouTube.

{mosads}“’Twas the end of the 113th when the countdown began. The new American Congress would soon be at hand. Time to take on the tough issues like taxes and spending. The gridlock in the Senate may finally be ending,” Boehner says as bells are heard in the background.

Republicans seized control of the Senate in November’s midterm elections, leading the Speaker to offer that “the people have spoken.”

“Reform is needed from home in Ohio to here in Capitol Hill. But not by executive order, but instead by a bill. The American people have spoken. They expect resolutions. More freedom and less Washington, as defined by the Constitution.”

Boehner isn’t the only member of Congress to pen some political holiday-timed verses.

Retiring Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) unveiled his 2014 jingle on Wednesday. He used his annual humorous poem to reflect on his experiences as America’s longest serving congressman:

“So the election’s now upon us, and amidst all the hintin’. There’ll be a line of new choices [and a Bush, and a Clinton]. As folks ‘actively explore,’ and throw their hats in the ring.
 We must look at their records, and the experience they bring.
 As for me, I’ve never been one to create a big scene
 So Happy Holidays to all, DINGELL 2016!”
