Airport considering dropping comedian namesake
California’s Bob Hope airport is considering dropping the legendary comedian from its name in the hopes of making passengers more aware of its location, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The airport, which is located in the suburbs of Los Angeles, is considering reverting to its old name of Hollywood-Burbank Airport, according to the report.
Officials are hoping that the name change will boost stagnant traffic at the airport.
{mosads}“We think that a clear geographic identity and creative marketing tools will help us broaden our passenger base,” airport Executive Director Dan Feger told the paper.
The airport was named after Hope in 2003. Prior to that, it was known as the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport.
The Hollywood-Burbank Airport name was used from 1967 to 1978.
The airport handled 3.8 million passengers in 2013.
