Reid to undergo more eye surgery
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will undergo a second operation on Wednesday morning to repair damage to his right eye following an exercise accident.
The operation is a follow-up to a procedure he underwent on Jan. 26 and will be performed at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington.
{mosads}“This is a necessary step to assist in recovering full vision in his right eye,” said Reid spokeswoman Kristen Orthman. “His recovery will require him to miss the rest of the week but he is not expected to miss any more time in the office beyond that.”
The Democratic leader was injured while exercising at home on New Year’s Day. He broke bones in his face and ribs and lost some vision in his eye.
The 75-year old Reid worked from Nevada as he recovered from his injuries before finally returning to the Capitol on January 20 sporting an eye page.
He missed both the State of the Union address and the Democratic retreat, but has said that his injuries would not slow him down.
“I think I’ve done a good job of directing my crew without my being physically present in the Capitol,” Reid told reporters last month.
Reid is up for reelection next year.
