House Judiciary Chair: We’re at a ‘standoff’

House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) says that the House and Senate are at a “standoff” over funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

Goodlatte tells The Hill it may take working over the weekend for the two chambers to end the impasse over implementation of the President’s immigration order.

{mosads}”We’re at a standoff — I think it’s progress that the Senate will take up a clean bill, but we still have to address the fact that the President is challenging the authority of the United States Congress … and that is what we’re going to confront as we go into the weekend,” Goodlatte said late Wednesday.

He added, “If the Senate takes it up and passes something, maybe we can sit down and work out our differences.”

Take a look at the chairman’s remarks in a video interview on the state of play from his perspective as the House GOP’s point person on immigration reform and constitutional authority.
