The Congress Must Speak Out For The Great Lakes (Rep. Candice Miller)

Throughout my career as a public servant, a principal advocacy of mine has been to improve the quality of our precious Great Lakes. This Congress we have made giant steps to this end, passing legislation to increase funding for clean water, fight invasive species, and end combined sewer overflows. Unfortunately, this permit flies in the face of everything we’ve accomplished this year. It’s a huge step backwards. It’s crazy—it’s downright nuts.

I strongly urge the EPA to reject this permit for increased dumping of chemicals and pollutants into the Great Lakes. Today’s resolution is an important first step in preventing BP from following through with this reckless plan, and I’m proud to be a part of this bipartisan effort.

This Congress must speak out for the Great Lakes. We owe it to our children, our grand children, and all other generations to follow.
