Hillary Clinton’s campaign is going for gold with a high-profile new staffer: former Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan.

Kwan will work on surrogate outreach as a paid campaign staffer, an aide confirmed to The Hill. She’ll mainly be focused on working with campaign surrogates to connect them with voters on issues for working families.

{mosads}The announcement comes just days before Clinton’s launch rally on Roosevelt Island in New York City on Saturday. While she first announced her candidacy in April, the rally is meant to serve as the formal start of her presidential run.

Kwan is no stranger to the political world. She worked in Clinton’s State Department and also traveled for the State Department during the Bush administration, Kwan told WAMU in Washington last year.

Her husband, Clay Pell, is a former member of the president’s National Security Council and worked at the Department of Education.

Kwan is a former world champion figure skater who won medals in the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics.

The New York Times first reported the hire.
