Trump: ‘I don’t mind’ raising taxes on myself
GOP presidential front-runner and billionaire Donald Trump says he’s willing to pay more in taxes to give a break to the middle class.
“You’ve seen my statements, I do very well, I don’t mind paying some taxes,” the businessman said on Bloomberg’s “With All Due Respect” on Wednesday.
“The middle class is getting clobbered in this country,” he added. “You know the middle class built this country, not the hedge fund guys, but I know people in hedge funds that pay almost nothing and it’s ridiculous.”
{mosads}Trump said he would focus on simplifying the tax code, including raising the rate at which hedge fund profits are taxed.
“I would let people making hundreds of millions of dollars-a-year pay some tax, because right now they are paying very little tax and I think it’s outrageous,” the billionaire business mogul said.
Elsewhere in the interview, which focused on fiscal issues, Trump said he believes it’s “worth the fight” for Republicans to battle President Obama over raising the debt ceiling, though he acknowledged it will probably be raised eventually anyway.
“Honestly, there’s so much fat in Washington, that if you had the right people in there, you could cut it and there would be no problem,” the GOP presidential front-runner said.
Trump also said he would lower corporate taxes in order to fight corporate inversions — a process where companies are re-incorporated in other countries to skirt American taxes.
“Let the money come in, tax it at a much lower rate, and let the money come in,” he said.
“This is money that could be spent in this country, and they can’t get it in.”
