Miley Cyrus says billionaire businessman Donald Trump “loved” her controversial 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance, in which she twerked and gyrated her way into the headlines.

{mosads}The “Wrecking Ball” singer, who’s hosting the music channel’s annual awards show on Sunday, tells The New York Times that she was staying at the Trump Hotel in New York immediately following her 2013 performance when she got a phone call from the now-GOP presidential candidate.

“Donald Trump literally called and said, basically, ‘I know everyone’s talking about it, but I loved it.’ I had no idea anyone was talking about it yet,” Cyrus says in the article published Friday.

The 22-year-old entertainer shocked viewers when she took to the stage in a nude-colored bikini, dancing provocatively while holding a foam finger. Rolling Stone called Cyrus and singer Robin Thicke’s medley of “We Can’t Stop” and “Blurred Lines” a “hot mess” and “pop-culture crime.”

Trump has weighed in on Cyrus’s personal and professional life more than once on Twitter. The former “Celebrity Apprentice” host tweeted less than a month after the VMAs that Cyrus was on a “very [tricky] and slippery path right now.”
