Report: Clinton snags NH senator’s endorsement

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.) plans on backing fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, according to a new report.

Shaheen will publicly announce her support for the former secretary of State next weekend in Portsmouth, N.H., The New York Times reported.

{mosads}It reported on Sunday that Shaheen, the first women elected as a governor and a senator in the Granite State, is speaking at a “New Hampshire Women for Hillary” rally on Sept. 5.

The event also marks the launch of Clinton’s new focus on her record of fighting for women’s issues, the newspaper added.

Clinton is currently the front-runner for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination across multiple national polls.

The latest RealClearPolitics average of voter samplings has her ranked first in her party’s presidential field, with 47.8 percent.

Voters are slowly souring on Clinton’s campaign, however, amid concerns over her use of a private email server during her tenure at the State Department.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), meanwhile, is closing the gap with Clinton as the controversy builds.

The Vermont lawmaker trails Clinton’s lead nationally but fares much better in New Hampshire.

Sanders is beating Clinton in the Granite State, 42 percent to her 35 percent, according to a survey from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling last week.

Shaheen’s upcoming endorsement helps Clinton regain her momentum over Sanders in the crucial early-voting battleground.

Sanders still lags behind Clinton’s lead in voter support across multiple national polls.

The latest RealClearPolitics average has the self-described socialist earning 26.3 percent, 21.5 points less than Clinton.
