Carson: I don’t ‘deny my faith’ like Trump

GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson said on Wednesday that he doubts the sincerity of Donald Trump’s religious faith.

“I realize where my successes come from, and I don’t in any way deny my faith in God,” he said during a campaign rally in Anaheim, Calif., according to CNN.

{mosads}“I think that’s the big differentiator,” Carson added, comparing himself to Trump. “That’s a very big part of who I am — humility and fear of the Lord. I don’t get that impression with him.”

Carson, a Seventh-day Adventist, has talked openly about his faith on the campaign trail. Trump, a Presbyterian, has repeatedly said he considers religion a private matter.

The two outsider candidates are fast becoming major rivals in the Republican race.

While Trump leads the GOP field with 27.8 percent support, Carson is rising, scoring 13.5 percent in the latest RealClearPolitics average of national polls.

Polls also place Carson second behind Trump in the crucial early-voting states of Iowa and South Carolina.

With his campaign on the upswing, Carson has begun to take aim at Trump. At the same California rally, he rejected the billionaire’s proposals on immigration, calling them impractical.

“It sounds really cool — you know, ‘Let’s just round them up and send them back,’” Carson said of Trump’s stance on deportations.

“People who say that have no idea what that would entail in terms of our legal system,” he said at the Commonwealth Club of California.

“The costs? Forget about it,” the retired neurosurgeon added. “Plus, where are you going to send them? It’s a double whammy.”
