Report: Grayson met with ethics investigator
Rep. Alan Grayson, the outspoken Florida congressman engaged in a tight Senate primary battle against a Democratic colleague, met with an ethics investigator over accusations related to his hedge funds, according to Politico.
The congressman told the news outlet that he couldn’t comment about any meeting with the Office of Congressional Ethics, according to published audio, but didn’t deny that a meeting took place.
{mosads}”Mr.Grayson’s counsel has advised him that neither he nor anyone in his office can confirm or deny the existence of any investigation,” spokesman Ken Scudder told The Hill by email.
Grayson changed the name of a hedge fund he managed last month amid complaints that he was violating House ethics rules that barred him from using his name in the title, a rule that exists to prevent lawmakers from leveraging their titles for financial gain.
His spokesman told The Tampa Bay Times that the congressman maintains he never broke the rules but that “it’s simply easier to change the name than to argue about it.”
He has been the target of two ethics complaints over the set-up — one from a supporter of his Democratic primary challenger for Florida’s open Senate seat, Rep. Patrick Murphy.
