Obama will see Star Wars

Just like the rest of America, President Obama is gearing up to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

New York Times White House reporter Gardiner Harris broke up press secretary Josh Earnest’s regular news briefing on Wednesday, a session dominated by questions about the Capitol Hill budget deal and terrorism, when he asked whether Obama has already seen the movie.

{mosads}“I have not asked him about it, so I do not know if he has had the opportunity to see it yet,” a smiling Earnest replied. “But I am confident that the president will at some point see the movie.”

The latest release in the Star Wars series has received massive hype from critics and advertisers and is set to hit theaters across the country on Friday.

The president has tried to show off his bonafides as a Star Wars fan. In 2013, he honored series creator George Lucas with a National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal.

“I remember when I first saw ‘Star Wars,’” Obama said during a White House ceremony. “There’s a whole generation that thinks special effects always looked like they do today. But it used to be you’d see, like, the string on the little model spaceships.”

But Obama irked sci-fi fans that year when he mixed up his “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” references when he uttered the phrase “Jedi mind meld” during a press briefing.
