Trump: Obama’s tears were real

Donald Trump said Wednesday that he thought President Obama was showing true emotions when he got teary-eyed rolling out his executive action on gun control.

“I actually think he was sincere,” the Republican presidential front-runner said on “Fox and Friends.”

{mosads}“I’ll probably go down about 5 points in the polls by saying that,” he added.

Obama was visibly emotional at the White House on Tuesday during a press conference to roll out unilateral steps aimed at expanding background checks and curbing gun violence. The president choked up when recalling the 2012 shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 20 children dead.

Some were critical of Obama’s display of emotion, including Fox News contributor Andrea Tantaros, who suggested that Obama used raw onions to fake the tears.

“It’s a thing that he feels — I think he’s incorrect about it, they’re just taking chunks and chunks out of the Second Amendment, but I think he probably means well,” Trump said Wednesday.

Trump stressed a focus on addressing mental health in the U.S., suggesting Obama was focused on the wrong issue by going for stricter gun-control measures.

“People need protection. They have to have protection. It’s a very serious problem,” Trump said.
