Trump: Reagan revolution didn’t have ‘intensity’ of my supporters

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says in a new interview the Ronald Reagan revolution pales in comparison to the support for his presidential candidacy.

{mosads}“I think that the closest thing I can think of is Reagan, but I don’t think it’s the intensity that we have,” Trump said in an interview for Bloomberg’s “With All Due Respect.”

“Now, Reagan had a little bit of this, but I don’t think to the same extent — but he also won,” he added.

Trump emphasized that his supporters are committed to his campaign, rejecting the insider narrative that his capricious base won’t show up to vote when it comes time to cast ballots.

“Why would a person stand in line for seven hours and then not want to go into a voting booth?” he asked. “It takes 10 minutes. So I think they’re going to vote.”

“It’s not just like, ‘Gee. It’s a little political rally and people are showing up to have fun.’ These people are committed,” he added.

The billionaire businessman currently leads the GOP primary field, with 35 percent support nationwide, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) places second, with 19 percent support, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), with 11.3 percent support, and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, with 8 percent support.
