Poll shows Kasich rising in New Hampshire
Ohio Gov. John Kasich is gaining ground in New Hampshire.
Kasich garners 20 percent support in the American Research Group (ARG) poll of the state released Tuesday, second only to Donald Trump’s 27 percent.
{mosads}Marco Rubio follows Kasich, with 10 percent. Chris Christie and Ted Cruz are tied for fourth with 9 percent, and Jeb Bush has 8 percent.
Kasich’s total is a big jump from the previous edition of the poll a week earlier, when he had 14 percent support.
With the ARG poll, Kasich is now second in New Hampshire in the RealClearPolitics average of state polls, again trailing only Trump.
Trump has 31 percent support in the RCP average, with Kasich at 13.3 percent, Rubio at 11.5 percent and Cruz with 11.3 percent.
Kasich said last week he’d drop out of the race if he gets “smoked” in New Hampshire.
“Then, you know, kind of the ballgame is over … because then it becomes very hard to raise money,” Kasich said Friday during an interview on WABC Radio’s “Election Central with Rita Cosby.”
“But I just don’t think that’s the way it’s going to be.”
Kasich has also said he was not interested in running for vice president.
The ARG poll was conducted from Jan. 15-18 and surveyed 600 likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire.
