GOP senator to help Cruz, Rubio campaign against Trump
Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) will hit the campaign trail in Iowa with two colleagues, Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), to campaign against GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
“We are in a moment of constitutional crisis. America already has one post-constitutional party, we don’t need another. We have a president who does not believe in executive restraint, we do not need another,” Sasse said in a statement posted to Facebook Tuesday.
{mosads}”I am not endorsing any candidate–I am urging conservatives to hold every candidate accountable to keeping their word so that we uphold the Constitution’s system of checks and balances,” he added.
“I’m pro-Constitution and if that makes me anti-Trump, that’s Trump’s problem.”
Sasse left the door open for joining any “other constitutional candidates,” but specifically noted that he’s “strongly questioned GOP front-runner Donald Trump.”
The freshman senator made his distaste for Trump known in a series of tweets Monday night questioning Trump’s previous liberal stances, as well as his “many affairs.”
