Jimmy Carter to address British Parliament
Former president Jimmy Carter on Wednesday will make a rare address to the upper chamber of the British Parliament to draw attention to the eradication of the Guinea worm disease, according to the Associated Press.
The 91-year-old former commander-in-chief has campaigned against the disease, which is transmitted by contaminated water, since 1986.
{mosads}Carter, who recently survived a scare with melanoma, will take his fight to the House of Lords as the complete eradication of the disease is within reach.
His office told AP that there were just 22 cases of the bug reported in 2015, down from 3.5 million cases when Carter first began his work.
The former president’s office also said he will take questions on Twitter under the hashtag #askJimmyCarter.
