Another SC poll puts Trump in the lead
Donald Trump holds a commanding lead heading into the South Carolina GOP presidential primary on Saturday, according to a new Fox News poll.
{mosads}Trump leads the Republican pack with 32 percent support in the Palmetto State, followed by Ted Cruz, who has 19 percent support, and Marco Rubio, with 15 percent support.
Jeb Bush and Ben Carson tie, with 9 percent support each, followed by John Kasich, with 6 percent support.
The poll is consistent with others released this week that have put Trump ahead by double digits in the state, with Cruz and Rubio in a close race for second.
But the Fox poll also shows the billionaire businessman’s lead shrinking, though only slightly.
A Bloomberg Politics poll on Wednesday showed Trump with a 19-point lead over Cruz, and a Monmouth University poll also released on Wednesday showed him with an 18-point advantage over the Texas senator.
Trump’s lead is also down since the last iteration of the Fox News poll in December, which showed him with a 20-point lead in the state.
The Fox News poll shows Trump making inroads with evangelical Christians, which comprise 60 percent of the polling sample. He leads that group by 8 points, 31-23, over Cruz.
Cruz narrowly edges Trump when it comes to respondents who self-identify as “very conservative,” winning that group by 2 points, 31-29.
Trump also tops the field when it comes to the candidate respondents said they will “never” support, with 39 percent vowing not to vote for the real estate mogul.
Bush places second in that regard, with 21 percent forswearing a vote for the former Florida governor, followed by Cruz, with 19 percent, and Kasich and Rubio, who have 11 percent each.
The Fox News poll surveyed 759 likely Republican voters from Feb. 15–17 and has a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
