Polls: Sanders leads in Oklahoma; Clinton in Alabama
New polls show Sen. Bernie Sanders ahead in Oklahoma, while Hillary Clinton has a big edge in Alabama, a day before Democrats in those states vote.
{mosads}Sanders leads the former secretary of State 48 percent to her 43 percent in Oklahoma, according to the Monmouth University poll released Monday.
Clinton owns a commanding 48-point edge in Alabama, however, leading Sanders 71-23.
Both states will vote on Super Tuesday, March 1.
Dem primary voters in both states believe Clinton will secure the party’s nomination, with 75 percent in Alabama seeing her as the eventual winner and 66 percent in Oklahoma.
Just 12 percent in Alabama see Sanders becoming the Democratic standard-bearer along with 23 percent in Oklahoma.
Dem voters in both states are typically certain about who they are voting for, pollsters found.
About 75 percent are confident of their candidate in Alabama, with 51 percent “completely decided” and 24 percent having a “strong preference.”
Sixty-seven are similarly confident of how they will vote in Oklahoma, with 45 percent “completely decided” and 22 percent having a “strong preference.”
Monmouth University polled 300 likely Democratic primary voters in each state via cell and landline telephones from Feb. 25-28. The polls have a 5.7 percent margin of error.
Clinton leads Sanders by about 8 points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
She scored a major win over Sanders on Saturday, beating him in a landslide 74 to 26 percent victory in the South Carolina primary.
