Trump: I’ll win over women by protecting them

Donald Trump on Tuesday predicted he would improve his standing with women by keeping them and their families safe.

“I have so many women that really want to have protection,” he said during a Fox News interview in Wauwatosa, Wis.

{mosads}”[Women] are saying, ‘We like Donald Trump because we feel he’s going to be the strongest for the country in terms of protection, in terms of [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria], in terms of the border,’ ” the GOP presidential front-runner added. “They like me for that reason. That’s protecting women, but it’s also protecting everybody.”

Trump also lashed out at the media, arguing it has distorted his remarks on women and alienated him from that voting bloc.

“I’m getting very bad press with women,” he said. “I don’t get fair press with women. Nobody respects women more than me. I think we’re going to change it around. The press treats me horribly with almost every aspect of life.”

Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s campaign manager, was charged with one count of simple battery last week for allegedly grabbing a female reporter in March. Former Breitbart journalist Michelle Fields alleges Lewandowski bruised her during a campaign rally in Jupiter, Fla.

Trump also outraged abortion rights supporters last week by suggesting women would need to be punished for receiving abortions if they were outlawed.

He has since walked back those comments, arguing he would only support penalties for abortion providers if the procedure were outlawed.
